Sticky Garlic Tofu

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 block of tofu
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup brown rice
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 spring onions, chopped
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Press the Tofu:

  • Place the tofu between two tea towels to remove excess water.
  • Cover it with a bowl and place a heavy iron cast pan on top.
  • Leave it for 10 minutes to squeeze out as much water as possible.

Prepare the Tofu:

  • After 10 minutes, chop the tofu into cubes.

Marinate the Tofu:

  • In a frying pan over medium heat, add soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and minced garlic. Stir well.
  • Add the tofu cubes and mix them to ensure they are coated with the sauce.
  • Remove from heat, let it cool down, and place it in the fridge for 20 minutes.

Cook the Brown Rice:

  • While the tofu is marinating, cook the brown rice according to the packaging instructions.

Fry the Tofu:

  • In a frying pan, add sesame oil and heat it.
  • Once hot, add some of the tofu cubes in a single layer along with the sauce.
  • Fry for 5 minutes without flipping them.
  • Flip them over and cook for another 5 minutes on the other side.
  • Add chopped spring onion in the last minute of cooking.

Serve:

Serve the tofu with cooked brown rice.

Generously sprinkle with sesame seeds.
