Austria Bike Trails around Strobl
Austria Bike Trails take you through some seriously stunning scenery—think charming villages, epic alpine views, and well-kept paths that make for a smooth ride. Whether you’re up for a leisurely ride or a bigger adventure, there’s something for everyone!
Welcome to Austria, a dream destination for anyone who loves cycling! Whether you’re up for a laid-back ride through the countryside or an adventure in the mountains, Austria’s bike trails have something for everyone.
We had an amazing week biking here with a mixed crew—kids as young as 3 and adults over 60. Even with the age gap, we managed to ride 50–60 km a day, with plenty of breaks for lunch, drinks, and, of course, ice cream. How did we make it work?
We booked our stay on Airbnb, looking for places near the lakes—Attersee, Mondsee, and Wolfgangsee. We ended up in a cozy cottage in Strobl, which was perfect! It had everything we needed—grocery stores, a pharmacy, and easy access to bike paths—plus, the views were absolutely stunning.
Tip: Get your bike checked before the trip so you don’t run into any surprises along the way!
Best Bike Trails Around Strobl:
Strobl – Unterach am Attersee Loop (60km/4.5 hours)
We kicked off our ride right from our rental, starting around Wolfgangsee and making our way toward the stunning Schafberg Salzkammergut viewpoint. From there, you get an incredible view of the lake below—definitely a spot worth stopping to take it all in.
Next, we continued toward Unterach am Attersee, taking a well-earned lunch break at Gasthof See, a traditional restaurant just before town. They have a big menu, outdoor seating, and beautiful views—perfect for refueling before the ride back.
The return route to Strobl was just as breathtaking, with endless views of shimmering lakes, rolling green hills, and the kind of scenery that makes you want to slow down and soak it all in.
Trip to Hallstatt (47km/2.5 hours)
If you’re anywhere near this charming little town, visiting is a must—again and again. It never gets old! The only downside to biking there? Figuring out what to do with your wheels once you arrive. Be sure to bring a lock so you can park your bike and explore freely. You can also walk your bike through town, but with the crowds, it’s not the most enjoyable experience.
To avoid the biggest crowds, try visiting just before peak season—late April to early May is a great window. Just keep an eye on the weather and hope for the best!
We started our ride in Bad Ischl, leaving our car at the half-empty Billa parking lot (which worked out perfectly) before cycling to Hallstatt. From there, we made our way around the entire lake and back, soaking in the stunning scenery along the way.
Trip to Salzburg – The Birthplace of Mozart
Our adventure started in Kuchl, where we casually parked by Salzach Lake, right next to the bike path—super convenient! Salzburg is definitely a bike-friendly city, but weaving through the crowds? That’s a whole sport in itself. Still, we embraced the chaos and made the most of it!
One of the highlights was biking up to Hohensalzburg Fortress. The climb was a workout, but the view from the top? Absolutely mind-blowing. The mix of city vibes and epic Alpine scenery looked straight out of a postcard. Totally worth every pedal push!
