AUSTRIA WITH E-BIKES SUITABLE FOR ALL AGES
Biking in Austria offers a scenic and diverse experience, with well-maintained trails that navigate through picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and stunning alpine vistas.
Welcome to Austria, where cycling enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels can explore stunning landscapes and charming towns along a network of well-maintained bike paths. From leisurely rides through picturesque countryside to thrilling mountain trails, Austria offers something for everyone on two wheels.
We had an amazing week in Austria, biking with a diverse group ranging from 3-year-olds to active 60+. Despite the range in ages, we covered 50-60 km each day, taking breaks for lunch, drinks, and ice cream. Curious how we managed it all?
We started by booking accommodation through Airbnb, focusing our search around the lakes—Attersee, Mondsee, or Wolfgangsee. We discovered a lovely cottage in Strobl, which proved incredibly convenient with nearby amenities like grocery stores, a pharmacy, and bike paths, not to mention its scenic beauty.
Note – I highly recommend ensuring your bike is serviced before the trip to avoid any unexpected issues during your vacation.
BEST BIKING DAYS SELECTED FROM OUR ITINERARY IN AUSTRIA
DAY 1
We kicked off our adventure straight from our cozy rented house and dove into the Strobl to Unterach am Attersee loop. With plenty of pit stops and tempting restaurants along the way, we indulged our taste buds while soaking in the stunning scenery. We also took a brief detour to Schafberg–Salzkammergutseen, a picturesque viewpoint offering stunning vistas of the lake.
day 2
Trip to Hallstatt – If you find yourself anywhere near that charming little town, it’s an absolute must-visit, time and time again. The only hiccup with biking there is being tethered to your wheels while wandering Hallstatt. Remember to pack a lock so you can find a spot to safely stash your bikes for a bit. Alternatively, you can stroll alongside them, but it’s not as enjoyable with the bustling crowds. Planning your visit just before the high season (late April to early May) can alleviate some of the congestion, but you’ll want to keep an eye on the weather forecast and hope for the best. We began our trip in Bad Ischl, parking our cars at the half-empty Billa parking lot, then cycled to Hallstatt and around the entire lake and back.
day 3
Biking around Lake Attersee was truly breathtaking. We stumbled upon a spontaneous May Day celebration and enjoyed a picnic by the lake. There’s a spacious picnic area located to the north of the lake, complete with children’s playgrounds, mini-golf, and numerous benches. We began our trip at the free parking lot indicated on the map.
day 4
Trip to Salzburg, birthplace of Mozart. Our journey started in Kuchl, where we casually parked by Salzach Lake, right next to the bike path. Now, Salzburg might be all about bikes, but dodging through the crowds? Let’s just say it’s a sport of its own. But hey, we’re all about embracing the chaos! Made our way up to Hohensalzburg Fortress on our bikes, and let me tell you, the view up there? Absolutely mind-blowing. City vibes mixing with epic Alpine scenery—it’s like something out of a postcard. Totally worth every pedal push, hands down!
