Venice Beach CA
Venice Beach is famous for its colorful boardwalk, mix of pop-up art stalls, quirky shops, skateboarders, families and the occasional whiff of secondhand ganja smoke.
Venice Beach is undeniably one of the most peculiar beaches I’ve ever seen, particularly on weekends. You’ll spot people doing all sorts of things, like handling snakes, pulling off daring jumps, and even homeless individuals showing off their piano skills. Keep an eye out for creative beggars too. And if luck is on your side, you might come across Harry Perry, the roller skate guitar legend. He even made appearances in numerous films and shows, including personal favorites like “Point of No Return.” I’ve bumped into him a few times; he usually charges $10 for a photo.
Don’t miss the iconic Muscle Beach gym, where you can buy a day pass if you want to pump iron under the California sun.
You can easily spend a few hours or even a few days exploring this beach. Whether you prefer walking, biking, or rollerblading, there’s plenty to see and do. Take a leisurely ride from Venice to Marina Del Ray or head in the opposite direction towards Santa Monica. (there are few places where you can rent a bike or a scooter right on the boardwalk)

WHERE TO EAT IF YOU’RE VEGAN
Exploring Venice Beach: Cautionary Notes
Venice Beach can be a fun place to explore, but I wouldn’t recommend doing so alone at night. Even a nice afternoon can be spoiled if you unknowingly take a photo of someone’s venue and they demand payment. During the COVID pandemic, Venice became a haven for homeless people, turning it into a tent city. It was disheartening to see. The city eventually cleaned it up, but it took a long time.
