MALIBU BEACH CALIFORNIA
Whether you’re into surfing, sunbathing, or just strolling along the shore with your toes in the sand, there’s a beach here with your name on it. My personal fave? Zuma Beach in Malibu, with its wide expanse of sand and epic sunsets that’ll leave you breathless.
MUST SEE, DO OR TRY IN MALIBU
TAKE A DRIVE UP THE SCENIC PACIFIC COAST HIGHWAY (PCH)
and you’ll stumble upon secret coves, rugged cliffs, and picture-perfect vistas. If you have your roof down, even better. PCH is one of the most iconic roadways in the US. Stretching along the coastline of California, it offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean and winds through some of the state’s most picturesque landscapes. The highway runs for about 656 miles (1,056 kilometers) from Dana Point in Southern California to Leggett in Northern California.
Known for its scenic beauty, the Pacific Coast Highway passes through several notable cities and landmarks, including Malibu, Santa Monica, Monterey, Big Sur, and the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco. It’s a popular route for road trips, offering opportunities for sightseeing, outdoor activities, and exploring coastal towns along the way.
While the Pacific Coast Highway offers stunning views and unforgettable experiences, it’s important to be aware of its reputation for car accidents, some of which have been fatal. If you’re parking along the PCH or need to cross it, exercise extra caution and stay vigilant.
HIKE UP TO THE ICONIC POINT DUME
THE VIEWS FROM THE TOP ARE TOTALLY WORTH THE SWEAT.
Point Dume offers an idyllic setting for watching sunsets. A short walk from the parking lot leads you to this serene spot, although the lot tends to fill up quickly, necessitating parking in nearby residential areas and walking a bit further. Once on the trail, keep an eye out for sea lions below the cliffs, and if you’re lucky, you might catch a glimpse of dolphins or whales during their migration. As the area can get windy, it’s advisable to bring along a jacket, especially on cooler days.
The iconic final scene of the original “Planet of the Apes” movie was indeed filmed at Westward Beach (exact location is at Pirates Cove!! many have this wrong), which is located just below Point Dume. It’s a fascinating bit of trivia tied to the history of both the film and the stunning coastal landscape of California.

Preventing Fires in Southern California
Fires in Southern California are an almost yearly occurrence and are always heartbreaking. They devastate communities, displacing people, animals, and destroying homes. Many of these fires are caused by human actions and negligence. I am sharing a few photos from the Malibu fire in 2020, which struck close to home for us. This serves as a reminder that open fires are only permitted in designated areas, and it is crucial to fully extinguish any fire before leaving. Let’s all do our part to prevent such tragedies.
