Avoid wearing new white sneakers—they’ll never be that white again. Instead, wear shoes that can handle dirt. While the hike isn’t long, the red sand gets everywhere and can be tough to clean. Also, wear shoes with good tread since most of the rim lacks a railing.
You need a healthy respect for heights on this hike. If you’re afraid of heights or have small kids, don’t get too close to the edge. In fact, you might want to keep any daredevils on a leash—just kidding, but seriously!
